Select a Terraria server running tModLoader. Vanilla and TShock do not use this mod catalogue. Keep a recoverable copy of your world before making changes. A modded world may need its existing content mods to load correctly.
Open ManageBefore you begin
This is a guide to the published controls, not a claim that every mod or pack has been tested. Check the options currently shown in your panel.
Find and install a mod
- Open Manage, select the correct world and open Plugins & mods. Check that the selected software is tModLoader.
- Choose Explore, search Steam Workshop and open a result’s details. Read the author’s requirements; appearing in search does not prove that a mod works with your version or world.
- Stop the server before applying changes. Choose Prepare preview. While preparation is running, wait for the result rather than submitting the same request again.
- Open the preview and check the proposed files, dependencies and warnings. Confirm only if the proposed change is the one you want. Browsing and preparing a preview do not install the mod. Select the confirmation checkbox, then choose Apply changes.
- Wait for the operation to finish and read its result. Start the server yourself, then check the console. Successful installation is not proof that the world starts or that players can join.
Prepare the players too
Players need a compatible tModLoader client and mod set. Launching ordinary Terraria is not the same as launching tModLoader. Check the selected release and each mod’s instructions before inviting friends.
Installed mods and settings
Use Installed to review the available actions for a mod. An update is offered only for an installed mod with a verified Workshop origin. Removing or disabling a content mod can affect the world on its next start. Review each change; updates and restarts are not automatic.
The Configurations section edits existing JSON files up to 1 MiB. Review and confirm an edit before applying it. It is not a general file manager; a mod may need to create its configuration before you can edit it.
Bringing a modpack or a world?
Import a pack is a separate path for a supported SaveData ZIP from Export Pack Instance. Upload and storage limits still apply. Importing a world does not install its mods. Keep matching .wld and .twld files together when backing up a tModLoader world.
If the preview or startup fails
Read the actual error and check the mod version, dependencies and server software. Do not bypass a blocked preview or repeatedly restart a failing world. Send support the error text and the time of the operation, never passwords or tokens. Catalogue and malware checks cannot guarantee that every mod is safe or compatible.
