Short answer

A Minecraft server address is a hostname, optionally followed by a colon and a port: myworld.chunkarc.net, or play.example.net:25566. Paste it into the Server Address field with no https:// and no trailing spaces. ChunkArc gives each server a name.chunkarc.net address chosen at creation, which stays valid even if the underlying machine changes.

How a ChunkArc address works

During Free Beta creation, choose the first part of an address. Choosing skyblockclub creates skyblockclub.chunkarc.net. Players enter the full address in Minecraft Java Edition's Multiplayer screen.

Choose a name players can remember

  • Use your community, world or theme: birchgrove, nightfall or friendsmp.
  • Keep it short enough to say aloud and type without mistakes.
  • Use letters, numbers and hyphens where accepted; avoid confusing punctuation.
  • Pick a name you will still like after the first week.

Avoid misleading names

Do not use names that impersonate ChunkArc, staff, another server or a well-known brand. Avoid names that suggest an official service you do not run. Reserved, abusive and misleading names can be rejected to protect players and the address space.

Share the complete address

When inviting friends, send the complete name.chunkarc.net value, not just the prefix. Players do not need your panel account and should never receive its password. See the invite friends guide for version, mod and whitelist checks.

Can you change it later?

Your first address is selected during creation. Later changes require Arc Credits or a paid change when that option is available. Choose carefully, especially before publishing it in videos, social profiles or Discord announcements.

What actually goes in the "Server Address" box

Minecraft asks for one line, and it accepts three different things. Knowing which one you have saves most of the confusion:

A hostname

yourname.chunkarc.net. This is what a hosted server normally gives you, and it is the one worth sharing: it keeps working if the underlying machine changes.

A hostname and port

play.example.net:25566. The number after the colon is only needed when the server does not use the default port and has no SRV record set up for it.

An IP address

203.0.113.10:25565. Works, but breaks the day the address changes, and it exposes the machine directly. Use it only for a server on your own network.

If your friend sent you something that is not one of those three shapes — a Discord invite, a world file, a Realms code — it is not a server address and Minecraft cannot connect with it.

"Server address is not correctly formatted"

This error appears before any connection is attempted. Minecraft is not saying the server is down; it is saying the text itself cannot be a server address. The usual causes, in the order they actually happen:

  • A space somewhere. Copying from a chat message often brings a trailing space with it. Delete it and retry.
  • A full URL. https://yourname.chunkarc.net is a web address. Remove https:// and everything after any slash.
  • The port typed with the wrong separator. It is a colon, not a comma, a dot or a dash: host:25565.
  • Two colons, or a colon with nothing after it. Usually the result of pasting over a previous entry without clearing the box.
  • Invisible characters. Addresses copied from styled chat can carry formatting marks that look like nothing on screen. Type it by hand once to rule this out.
