Free Minecraft hosting: what to check before choosing.

A free server can be enough for a small world with friends. Check how it starts, what happens when nobody plays and how you can keep a copy of the world before comparing RAM alone.

ChunkArc Free Beta

Our published base offer includes 2 GB RAM and 5 GB storage, with an available region in Europe or North America. Manage brings together server controls and backups to your own Google Drive. Empty Minecraft servers stop after 15 minutes; storage, transfer and capacity limits apply.

The beta is intended for small worlds and testing. It does not guarantee always-available capacity or that a large modpack will fit. Check the software and versions actually offered in the creation form.

Compare the free plans

These are published allowances, not equivalent CPU benchmarks. A missing figure is not zero. A service can change its offer after this check.

Software, backups and the small print

Aternos

Aternos lists Java and Bedrock software, plugins, mods, modpacks and Google Drive backups. Check its actual catalogue for the exact release you need. We do not copy a RAM estimate from a competitor’s comparison table.

Falix

Falix advertises a plugin/mod catalogue and Drive backups. Its country article limits free eligibility, while its timer documentation says some game types need renewal. These documents have different scopes: check the plan shown for your game rather than assuming every free server has identical rules.

Minehut

Minehut presents Java/Bedrock crossplay, plugin uploads and a web file manager. Its current homepage says there is no playtime limit; older articles about daily limits are not the basis of this comparison. Check the plan’s available plugins and export controls before moving.

Minefort

Minefort advertises a free server and a plugin manager. The detailed RAM and inactivity sources we found are from 2025, while its pricing page mainly lists paid plans. Treat those dated terms as something to confirm, not a verified account test.

Read user reviews

Use the links below to read the current profiles. Reviews can cover paid plans, older versions and experiences unrelated to free hosting. We do not reproduce external scores or review text, assign our own star rating, or use reviews as a TPS or uptime measurement.

Choose for your world, not the largest number

  • Confirm Java or Bedrock, the game version and the required loader. A Fabric mod is not a Forge mod.
  • Check whether you can download the world, what backups include and what restoring replaces.
  • Separate empty-server sleep, session renewal and multi-day inactivity rules.
  • Try a small world and a real connection from your group’s region before moving an important save.

Questions before you create a server

Which free host is best?

There is no measured winner here. Choose the software, access rules and backup options that fit your group. The number of RAM gigabytes alone does not establish lower lag.

Does free mean online 24/7?

Read the specific plan. An available network, automatic wake and an empty server that never stops are different things. Check renewal and inactivity rules too.

Why is ChunkArc outside the comparison?

We publish this page and offer a competing service. Our promotional section is separate so it is not mistaken for an independent ranking.

Sources and scope

The links identify the public documents behind each entry. We have not created competitor accounts, tested a migration, measured latency or audited their uptime. Product claims remain attributed to their publishers. This is a selected list, not the entire market; time-limited trials are a different offer.

Before you move a world

Keep an independent copy and leave the original server in place until you have checked the new world and a real player join.
