Short answer

Stop your Terraria server and open its world tools in ChunkArc Manage. Choose Upload a world, select the .wld file and, for tModLoader worlds that have one, the matching .twld file. Read the checks, confirm once and wait for the operation to finish before starting the server.

World controls and upload limits checked in Manage on . You must own the server to use these tools.

Which world files do you need?

  • Vanilla Terraria or TShock: use the world’s .wld save, not a character file.
  • tModLoader: keep the .wld and its matching .twld together when the world has mod data. For example, MyWorld.wld belongs with MyWorld.twld, not a file from another world or an older backup.
  • Not the right upload: .plr character files, plugin archives and entire modpacks are not world saves.

Make a separate copy of the original files on your own device. If the save is cloud-only, make a local copy through the game before preparing the upload. Keep both files from the same save or backup together; do not mix versions.

Uploading a world does not install mods. Before importing a modded save, make sure the server uses the compatible tModLoader release and required mods. Ask support if the modpack setup is not available in your panel. Loading a modded save without its mods can lose world content.

Upload your world in Manage

  1. Open Manage and select the Terraria server you want to change. Check the name and software before continuing.
  2. Stop the server normally and wait until the panel confirms it is offline. A stop request is not the same as a completed stop.
  3. Open the world tools and choose Upload a world.
  4. Select the .wld file. Add its matching .twld when needed for tModLoader. The current limits are 64 MiB per file and 90 MiB combined.
  5. Read the compatibility and recovery checks. Confirm only when you have your own backup and the right server software.
  6. Submit once and wait for a completed result. The panel keeps a recovery copy before switching the active world; the old data and recovery copy need room within your storage allowance.
  7. Start the server normally, read the console and join to check your world. Keep your original backup until you have confirmed the expected builds, progress and mod content.

Create a new world with a different size or difficulty

To start fresh, stop the server and choose Create a new world. Pick an unused name with 1 to 20 letters, numbers, underscores or hyphens. Choose Small, Medium or Large, then Classic, Expert, Master or Journey.

After confirmation finishes, the server generates that world on its next normal start. First generation may take longer, particularly for larger worlds or modded software.

Choosing a size does not resize an existing world. These settings also do not change an existing save’s difficulty. They apply to a new world only. Keep a backup before switching away from your current world.

Return to the previous world

If you need to go back, stop the server and open Restore previous world. Review the previous world offered by Manage, confirm the switch and wait for completion before starting again. Check the world after joining.

This is a return to the previous world, not an unlimited history of every upload. Keep your own backups and use the backup tools for longer-term copies. Do not delete old world files to free space while an operation is still running.

If the upload is blocked

  • “Stop the server” while it appears stopped: wait for the latest status, then refresh Manage once. If the message remains, send support the server name and time. Do not repeatedly submit the same operation.
  • Files too large: check the per-file and combined limits. Do not rename a ZIP to .wld or split the save to get around validation.
  • Wrong software or files: check the save’s version, the chosen server and the matching tModLoader files. Renaming files does not make them compatible.
  • Not enough disk space: the current world, incoming files and recovery copy all need space. Back up your data and ask support before removing anything you may need.
  • Operation still pending or temporarily limited: wait for the current result. The panel limits repeated world changes to protect the server.

Bring your world, keep your backup

Use the guided world tools in Manage to select the right save and check the result. No manual server-path editing is needed for the supported upload flow.
